Massive Attack announce Bristol show at Filton Airfield
Massive Attack have just announced a hometown show in Bristol as part of their MezzanineXXI tour.
Taking place on March 1 2019, the show will be housed in a special custom-built indoor venue called Steel Yard Bristol. The temporary one-off space will be erected at Filton Airfield, yards from the Brabazon Hangars that could soon become home to Bristol’s long-awaited arena.
The tour is said to be a completely new audio and visual production designed by Robert Del Naja, with collaborators to be announced at a later date. The show will re-imagine the band’s classic album, Mezzanine, 21 years on from its release using custom audio reconstructed from the original samples and influences. The album, which includes the track Teardrop, was the band’s third album and their most commercially successful, topping the charts in four countries.
is needed now More than ever
The announcement comes despite the band publicly supporting the building of an arena in Bristol city centre, at the original site near Temple Meads that was earmarked for an arena.
Andrew Billingham, managing director of YTL arena operations who own the site in Filton, said of the news: “We’re delighted to have confirmed one of Bristol’s most prestigious bands to play at Filton Airfield next year as part of their Mezzanine anniversary tour.
“The airfield has played host to huge events in years gone by including major air shows for more than 30,000 spectators. The Steel Yard will be a huge custom built indoor venue that will create an amazing atmosphere for this very special event.”
Tickets for the show go on sale Friday, November 2 2019 at 10am through www.alttickets.com
