Monday: Radian / Tomaga / Iceman Furniss, Exchange
Austrian trio Radian combine acoustic and electronic instruments to create a spacey, glitchy, highly imaginative take on post-rock. Support comes from UK duo Tomaga and ace Bristol post-punk jazzers Iceman Furniss Quintet.

Tuesday: The Saw Doctors, O2 Academy
A rootsy blend of rock, R&B and Gaelic folk with massive singalong choruses, The Saw Doctors are massive in their homeland and have had a passionate UK following since the early ’90s.

Wednesday: The Human League. Colston Hall
Originally a pioneering synth group with experimental leanings, The Human League re-invented themselves and became of the most successful UK pop acts of the 1980s.

Wednesday: John Cooper Clarke & Hugh Cornwell, O2 Academy
Original Stranglers frontman Hugh Cornwell was a student in Bristol and used to stretch out his grant by playing guitar in Keith Floyd’s restaurant on Chandos Road. Here he teams up with Mancunian poet and fellow punk survivor Dr John Cooper Clarke in support of their collaborative album This Time It’s Personal.

Thursday: Bristol Symphony Orchestra, St Georges
Having made its debut in June 2016, Bristol Symphony Orchestra returns with a selection of orchestral pieces featured in classic film scores. The pieces include Elmer Bernstein’s upbeat The Magnificent Seven, Bernard Herrmann’s intense Psycho Suite, and the romantic beauty of Ennio Morricone’s Cinema Paradiso. William Goodchild conducts.

Friday & Saturday: Richard Dawson / Mette Rasmussen, Redcliffe Caves
Folk/psych songwriter Dawson and alto-sax ace Rasmussen are both unusually intense performers. The sandstone mines beneath Redcliffe should make for a magical setting.

Friday: I Love Acid, Thekla
Rephlex veteran DMX Krew tops the bill, with support from Placid, Sofaboy and an “improvised acid onslaught” from residents Posthuman.

Saturday: Lice / The Rebel / Melt Dunes, Exchange
Post-punk troublemakers Lice have quickly established themselves in the Bristol scene, supporting Fat White Family and The Fall along the way. Main support for their first birthday show comes from The Rebel, aka Ben Wallers of The Country Teasers, whose intense performances (and controversy-baiting lyrics) are also well worth stepping out for.

Sunday: Spiro, St Georges
Spiro’s track The Vapourer was nominated for the Best Original Track gong at this year’s BBC Folk Awards. Tonight the Bristol band bring their exquisite instrumental sound to St George’s to launch their first vinyl LP, Repeater.

Sunday: Oozing Wound / Knifeman / Sex Swing, Exchange
Speed metal band Oozing Wound cite one of their influences as Satan, and their unrelenting, pounding guitar riffs fall somewhere between sludge metal and thrash. Punishingly intense jazz-kraut-punk outfit Sex Swing are one of our favourite live bands, and they’ve just released an excellent debut LP on The Quietus’s own label.
