New music videos from Ewan French and Slowie & Komposa
Ewan French both directs and has edited the video for his latest release, Mirage.
The Brislington musician said: “The idea behind the music video was that we are all lab rats. Prisoners to the political climate and to our jobs.
“Life is a lab and we are the rats, subjected to immense amounts of pain until breaking point. And that we should fight this institutionalisation that manages to destroy the creativity and personality of many.”

“Me and Ellie Sedlen, the producer, worked closely on the video,” says Ewan, who studies filmmaking at Screenology. “She helped me a lot in terms of fleshing out the idea and getting people involved. I wanted to do something that encapsulated the idea of being a lab rat, an idea I came up with a while ago.
“To be a lab rat is to be institutionalised, stripped of personality and creativity and conform to the system. I feel like as an artist I am constantly fighting for my artistic freedom. To not give into the nine to five. Not to listen to people (especially old people!) who tell me to settle down.
“I feel I speak for others when I say this, I’d rather die being an artist then live by the nine to five.”
The 20-year-old, who has just started his own production company, adds: “I worked with like minded people, who felt equally as passionate about what it means to be a lab rat and to not conform.
“If there is a kid reading this, don’t let anyone talk you out of your creativity my lil g. Believe in yourself and stand strong behind your ideas.”
Meanwhile, Trust Nobody, the new video by Slowie and Komposa, with production from Baileys Brown, sees the pair on Leonard Lane in the Old City, with the video shot and edited by Blue Hat Visuals.
“Trust Nobody draws heavily on rap, grime and dubstep influences whilst ultimately sitting in a bass-heavy grey area somewhere between the three genres in classic Durkle Disco fashion,” says the video’s description on YouTube.
“Picking up where they left off on their previous collaboration, Trust Nobody sees Slowie & Komposa continue to step on the necks of clout chasing MCs and snakes, extolling the virtues of keeping your circle small and tight.”
Slowie is a cult hero in the Bristol grime scene, who has been a key member of the Durkle Disco team since 2015.
He hit the headlines earlier in December for his appearance on SWU.fm reciting a long list of areas of Bristol.
London-born, Bristol-based Komposa is another MC having a strong finish to the year, while Baileys Brown has been a regular fixture in the British hip hop scene for some years.
