New online store will raise money for grassroots venues
The director of the Exchange in Old Market is raising money for the city’s grassroots music scene.
Paul Horlick, who also runs Spurge Recordings and Environmental Studies, two Bristol music labels, is starting an online store to encourage the public to donate to local musicians.
Bands and solo artists can donate songs to the online store by emailing Paul with their music, an image and a description, which can then be bought for 25p or more.

“I think it’s a great way to make a small donation and you get some amazing music,” says Paul. “People can then go to the site and buy tracks for a minimum of 25p but you can also pay as much as you want!”
All money raised from the store will be given to the Music Venue Trust, which has started a Grassroots Music Venue Crisis Fund.
The fund follows the trust’s announcement that 550 small venues could close across the UK due to the coronavirus pandemic. The trust said: “The Music Venue Trust needs to raise £1m. With this funding, it will be able to respond directly and dynamically to every threatened closure and provide emergency financial support when required to prevent the permanent closure of grassroots music venues.
