On the beat with a suitcase soundsystem

Walking from Stokes Croft, through the Bearpit to Haymarket Walk, some passers-by don’t even bat an eyelid to the police officer on foot patrol.

But this is a different type of beat, with the officer wearing a flashing helmet and LED mask and pulling a suitcase that has been converted into a boombox playing Sound of da Police by KRS-One.

Leon Mook is the man behind the mask, who built the boombox himself several years ago, with the vintage suitcase now having a siren and flashing lights.

In the video, a real police car drives by Mook underneath the 51:02 building, to which he raises a fist.

Another clip shows him strolling past Turbo Island almost as far as No. 51, this time playing Police and Thieves by Junior Murvin:
