Peppa Pig’s First Concert Tour hits Bristol

By Sarski Anderson  Tuesday Jul 12, 2022

Unlike most classical concerts featuring the music of Beethoven, Mozart, Grieg and Tchaikovsky, the tour coming to St George’s on July 25-26 will also star Peppa Pig and her family.

Aiming to be a fun, interactive introduction to a live orchestral setting, for children aged 18 months and older, and their families, Peppa Pig: My First Concert Tour offers its patrons an inspiring chance to listen, enjoy, and make music.

Young audience members are invited to dance along with their favourite porcine family as they are introduced to the sounds of different instruments, and the joy of orchestral pieces, very often for the first time. The show will also include a chance sing along to well-loved songs from the TV series.

Jane Mitchell is the creative director of Aurora Orchestra, who provide the music for the production. Her enthusiasm for the opportunities afforded by this sort of collaboration is very apparent. “Orchestras are sometimes seen as having a few barriers or being inaccessible,” she points out.

“Anything that can be done to break that down – especially for a younger audience – I think most musicians are behind that. And having ‘Muddy Puddles’ alongside Mozart is a great way to do that! It is completely vital, for live music itself, to have young people introduced to instruments.

“We’ve tried to really make sure that every instrument is showcased during the concert. There’s definitely a feeling of music being a lofty, untouchable thing. I hope Peppa Pig: My First Concert will make kids think it is much more relevant to them, and less scary than they thought.”
