Powerful web series openly discusses mental health
A new web series a musician born and raised in Bristol will discuss mental health experiences.
Hosted by Suchy Sha, an artist whose work is directly inspired by the city and is influenced by the like of 2Pac, David Bowie and Aaliyah, is speaking to notable figures about their experiences with mental health and will directly and openly discuss difficult topics.
“I just want to get the message out: Just please people, look out for each other if you do have that gut feeling, or haven’t heard from a friend in a while, just check in” says Suchy on the series, called Let’s Talk.
is needed now More than ever
“You never know what other people are going through or thinking right now. So please check in.”
The series was originally planned to be four or six episodes long but has grown into a longer project.
“Over a glass of red wine at dinner with me and my management, the conversation kept going back to Let’s Talk, my current single, (Let’s Talk is out on Thursday, January 21) as we both felt it needed more love and push as it has a very strong message that I feel is needed right now,” Suchy adds.
“So, after a few, we shouted ‘Let’s Talk! The series!’ and that’s where the idea was born.”
The first guest on the series is Mikee Freedom, a rapper from the 1990s who rose to fame with the hit I Wanna Give You Devotion. He discusses growing up with a mum suffering from bipolar and the importance of mental health in a pandemic.
Suchy will also speak with BBC presenter James Threlfall, artist manager, mentor and MBE award winner Yasin El Ashrafi and LGBTQ+ activist Katie Neeves.
“I wanted people who had their own experience in life and that had a strong message and people that were comfortable to talk about their experiences, their signs and triggers and their coping mechanisms,” soul singer Suchy adds.
“This will hopefully help show people that feel the same, so they can catch themselves before they fall.
“I wanted all different walks of life and all different characters and this is how the world is made up, so I wanted them to be really relatable and to help others that are suffering right now.”
