Brisfest Soundscape highlights, part 1
On Saturday, July 30 Brisfest returns in a brand new, multi-venue format.
We’re particularly excited here at Bristol24/7 because this year we’re programming the main stage. Unfolding outside (and later inside) The Station, our ‘Best of Bristol’ lineup represents the past, present and future of the city’s underground music scene from indie rock to hip-hop, electronica and bass music.
Each day this week we’ll be picking out a few of the bands, DJs and solo artists from our stages and beyond.
Smith & Mighty
These Bristol Sound pioneers should need no introduction. From their soundsystem-ready covers of Walk On By and Anyone Had A Heart to successful experiments in dub, jungle and garage, they laid the blueprint for Bristol bass music as we know it today.
Spectres
Our outdoor stage is headlined by Spectres, whose mindblowing show at Arnolfini in January was one of the finest local band performances we’ve ever seen. While their media-trolling antics are legendary, it’s their abrasive, expansive, progressive music that sets them among the UK’s finest noise merchants.
Break
Break’s impeccable, diamond-hard productions have made him a leading figure in drum & bass for well over a decade. His label Symmetry Recordings is one of the genre’s most reliable sources of forward-thinking beats.
