Fans of meat, music and mayhem take note. Grillstock Festival returns to the Harbourside on the weekend of July 1 – 2.
With roots in Southern sounds, bluegrass and twisted Americana, Grillstock has grown over the years into a large scale, fully fledged music festival in its own right. This year’s event features big name acts like Craig Charles, Hot 8 Brass Band, The Pharcyde, Hayseed Dixie and The Darkness as well as thirty competition BBQ teams.

Here’s a taste of what’s in store over the weekend.
Craig Charles DJ Set
The BBC 6Music DJ and all-round king of funk brings his special blend of funk and soul to close-out the main stage on Saturday night. It will be action packed and full of jams.
The Darkness
The self-confessed “world’s most epic rock band,” The Darkness are to headline Sunday evening. Air guitars at the ready!
The Pharcyde
Listening to Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde two decades from its release, its timelessness is unmistakable. Every song on the album inverts a hoary hip-hop cliché. With classics like Oh Shit, Otha Fish, Ya’ Mama, and hit single, Passing Me By, it shipped over a million units and has been described by everyone from Pitchfork to The Source as one of the greatest albums ever made.
Hot 8 Brass Band
Hot 8 blend hip-hop, jazz and funk with their native New Orleans brass sounds, and they’re 100% festival dynamite. Check out their take on Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing.
Hayseed Dixie
These Grillstock Festival favorites are the closest thing we have to a house band. Creators of the musical genre ‘rockgrass’, Hayseed Dixie are all about rip-snorting, hillbilly covers of hard rock songs. Think Highway to Hell meets Deliverance.

Away from the main stage, the Dive Bar offers live bands, slide guitars, banjo picking and late-night DJ sets. Highlights include Son of Dave, DJ Cheeba, Sicknote Steve and the Dirty Diesel Outlaw Orchestra. This year’s festival also sees the return of of the now legendary MeatRave, which takes place as the sun goes down in and around the grill-pits and smokers of the BBQ competition.
“Grillstock is not about a specific genre or style of music,” says co-founder Ben Merrington. “It’s a really diverse mix this year and it has taken us a while to put together but I think the lineup absolutely kicks ass”.
