Preview: Home Grown Heat Showcase 2019

By Caitlin Scott  Wednesday Sep 25, 2019

A free showcase will take place at Colston Hall’s Foyer this autumn, featuring the city’s most promising new underground artists.

The event is the final showcase of Bristol’s Home Grown Heat programme, which gives Bristol-based emerging underground artists a chance to dive headfirst into the industry and receive bespoke mentoring from industry professionals.

The showcase will celebrate artists who have just completed a year of the programme, where they have received bespoke mentoring from industry professionals, studio time and invaluable support to further their music careers in Bristol.

The artists – Pariah, Lexus P, AMELIA, Delocx and KAYA – will be introduced by none other than grime MC and producer Novelist and Bristol grime producer OH91. The pair are an unstoppable force in UK grime and will host a Q&A session before the artists’ showcase.

Grime MC Novelist will host a Q+A before the music showcase

Expect an evening of the very best of urban genres such as grime, hip-hop and neo-soul. Bristol-via-Leeds RnB artist Pariah will bring a synth-styled twist to classical RnB, hard-hitting Bristol hip-hop will come from Lexus P and AMELIA will bring things down a notch with smooth electronics and lo-fi grooves.

There will be even more hip-hop from Delocx who shows off his deep love for Bristol in fresh formulas, and genre-bending KAYA will meld together the very best of psych-pop, trip-hop and neo soul for a performance already backed by the likes of Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams.

This year’s showcase arrives as the deadline for the 2020-21 applications comes to a close, seeing in a new group of emerging, underground artists from Bristol enter into the October to April programme. The next cohort of artists will be part of a new version of the programme, seeing Bristol Music Trust partnering with studio company Pirate Studios and promoters Team Love and Who Cares?.

Kicking off the event on Thursday October 3 at 5:30pm will be Novelist with an interesting Q&A, before the main showcase at 7pm at Colston Hall’s Foyer.
