Preview: Jordan Rakei, Thekla

By Naomi Jeremy  Tuesday Oct 10, 2017

Singer, songwriter, and producer Jordan Rakei hails from Brisbane but is now based in London. He has been making waves internationally with his smooth and sumptuous blend of soulful piano driven tones that touch on jazz, electronic and hip-hop, plus some reggae sprinkled in for good measure.

Jordan first emerged back in 2013 when he released his debut lo-fi EP offering Franklin’s Room, and since then has gone on to release a number of collaborations with the likes of Tom Misch, FKY and Ta-Ku along with his most recent album Cloak, which colourfully displayed Rakei’s musicality as a songwriter, beatmaker and keys player.

His new album Wallflower, released on September 22 on Ninja Tune Records, sees his sound evolve and mature. Jordan talks openly about his inspiration for the album about putting forth his emotions around experiencing social anxiety and being an introverted person all his life. “It’s been really refreshing for me to be totally open and share that with the public. I would much rather put it all into the music than sit down and tell people about my problems.”
