Preview: Kagoule, The Louisiana
Kagoule are a Nottingham three-piece who make heavy alt-rock tunes jammed to the rafters with spooky-ass sci-fi-inspired lyrics, crumpled-up riffs that have been nicked from the 90s and turned on their heads, perfectly filthy basslines, and drum breaks designed by someone a bit broken but very good at drums. Their debut album, Urth, was released in 2015 and is absurdly forward-thinking and cohesive for a first release – never mind the fact that the band members were teens when it was recorded.
The band released the first taste of their second album in early September and single Monsieur Automaton has all the hallmarks of a Kagoule classic plus a new taste of psyche splatted into its centre. If it’s a harbinger of what’s on the horizon, then this show should be even more of a indie screamer than their already-excellent live show has already been.
is needed now More than ever
Supports Catholic Action are a happier counterpoint to Kagoule’s creepy coolness. Jamming out on pop tropes with zero shame whatsoever, this is your chance to kick up your heels before moshing down to the main event. Class.
Kagoule appear with supports Catholic Action at the Louisiana on Saturday, November 4.
