Preview: Lemuria, Exchange
If you were a fan of feely alt-rock ten years ago (guilty!), just the opening bars of Lemuria’s debut album Get Better will probably be enough to get the hairs on the back of your neck standing up. Channelling the best of mid-90s alternative bands like Superchunk and the Weakerthans, the girl-boy quiet-loud pop-punk album soon became a cult hit.
It spoke about small things like weight gain, getting butterflies, and losing out on sleep – but also showed how these seemingly small events can transform into the things that keep you awake at night when you’re still trying to find your way.
is needed now More than ever
Hailing from Buffalo New York, the trio have released two albums since – most recently The Distance is So Big in 2013 – but for this show the band will be dusting off those old tunes from Get Better and trying to get everyone to feel something again. With a bunch of aging emos in the crowd like me, I don’t think they’ll have much trouble.
Lemuria appear at the Exchange on Friday, July 7. Grab tickets over at www.exchangebristol.com/events/2017-07-07-lemuria-exchange
