Preview: Shindig Weekender 2017

By Tara Phillips  Monday May 22, 2017

This bank holiday sees the return of the Shindig Weekender, Ghetto Funk’s annual festival for music fans and their families. This intimate festival set in Bruton, Somerset, boasts an excellent lineup for a such a small, reasonably priced festival.

Local talent The Heavy headline the scorching bill which includes house legend Todd Terry, hip hop pioneers The Sugarhill Gang & Furious 5, reggae-breaks heavyweights the Dub Pistols, the genre bending Correspondents plus many more.

Shindig also offers a variety of food stalls, wellbeing workshops, spoken word and poetry showcases, and boutique camping. There’s entertainment for the little ones in ‘Kids Kingdom,’ an area loaded with workshops, activities, a play area and cinema for kids, and a finale procession on Sunday that the whole family can get involved in, with prizes for the best fancy dress given out afterwards to encourage the festival’s dress up theme – ‘The Vibe Tribe,’ with ‘Glitter Tribe’, ‘Animal Tribe’, and ‘Disco Tribe’ offered as inspiration.
