Queen’s Jubilee: Orchestra to parade through Bristol on open-top bus

By Charlie Watts  Tuesday May 24, 2022

Bristol’s professional orchestra is to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee by parading through the city on an open-top bus.

The Bristol Ensemble will take to the streets on a Bristol Lodekka on Friday, June 3, marking Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne.

The vintage bus will make stops across the city, where there will be classical music performances by the 18 musicians on board.

The parade is scheduled to start at St Peter’s Church in Lawrence Weston at 2pm, ending at the M Shed at 6.45pm.

Along the way, the bus will stop at Blaise Castle’s car park, and in Horfield, Lawrence Hill, Hartcliffe, Whitchurch and Knowle West.

“We really hope that everyone will enjoy the music and see that orchestras are lively, fun bands of musicians who want to be out playing to everyone,” said Penny Rawlings, who is the lead of Bristol Ensemble’s Busking the Bus project.

“The bus performances will be accessible, community-focused and fun. We want communities – especially those facing deprivation that are culturally-neglected – to feel valued, and a part of Bristol’s vibrant cultural scene.”
