Review: HUBB Records Vol.4 Launch Party, Dareshack – ‘The talent that BIMM are producing will go on to do great things in the future’

By Ben Nicholls  Monday Jul 4, 2022

It’s that time of year again, another year of university is over and summertime for the students is here. Before that though, BIMM Bristol put on an event for some of the artists that are working with the university’s label, HUBB Records. A label run for students, by students. Held at Dareshack, the drinks were flowing, the music was booming and the audience were loving it.

Up first, out of the four acts performing that evening, was Freddie Lewis. Singing solo for the evening, Freddie incapsulated the the crowd with his beautifully worded songs alongside telling some of his poetry. When you hear Freddie’s lyrics, it’s as if he is Bob Ross, painting on a canvas that tells a thousand words with the simplest of brushes. Able to bring the crowd to complete silence whilst performing, you could almost hear the engineer breathing at the back of the venue.

Up next, we had El Knight step up on stage. With an electric guitar and their tracks, they took us on a journey through the ages. El Knight blends elements of R&B alongside Trip-Hop. If you want to know what that sounds like, I heavily encourage you to check out their album which was recently released.

The penultimate act of the evening, GUY brought the energy. He brought brutality, he brought everything he could to that stage. With surprise after surprise, the crowd gave back what he was giving. One minute he would be on the piano playing chords that had spice to them, to singing his version of ‘What A Wonderful World, to having the crowd shout back the lyrics to his songs.

To close the evening, Bible Club picked us up, shook us all around the room and left us with sweat in our brows. With dirty riffs, hard hitting drums that pierced through your ears (so much so the snare drum actually broke on stage) and vocals that shook the room.

It’s safe to say that the talent that BIMM is producing will sure go on to do great things in the near future, producing some of the city’s most eclectic and niche artists and bands. Make sure to follow HUBB Records on Instagram and Facebook to keep up to date with the rest of their artists and their releases.
