Review: Frontline: Dubkasm, Cosies
I set off to Cosies for the 5th Frontline event in the heart of St Paul’s which takes place bimonthly. Walking down the stairs into the venue you could hear the bass pumping out of the sound system, from that point on I knew it was going to be a special night! Once inside positive energy surrounded with people dancing to C-Side; one of Frontlines selectors, with a vinyl collection of Dub, Roots, Steppas, Dubplates and smooth Reggae vibrations. Showing passion for his vinyl collection stacked with 7″ 45’s, 10″ & 12″ records, C-Side produced a high energy set with records selected that evidently made people dance. Chris Iona aka C-Side started the night with a conscious meditative vibe, followed by Roots Factory Records owner Frankie Mathuna and a tasteful selection of tracks ranging from Roots Reggae, Dubplates, Dancehall, Rocksteady and Steppas.
By the end of his set Cosies was full to the brim with people from all cultures coming together in unity to enjoy the soulful music being played out by all the artists. The almighty Dubkasm (Sam Stryda & Ben Digistep) Bristols most iconic duo then came on after Roots Factory. DJ Stryda on the decks and Digistep playing on his Saxophone combined provided a beautiful show packed with dubplates. Having heard lots about Dubkasm from various friends I was excited to see the famous Bristol duo do what they do best. They did not disappoint! Whilst DJ Stryda selected the tunes that got everyone moving, Digistep hit the right notes on his saxophone as their two talents bound together in harmony.
is needed now More than ever
