Review: Tanya Lacey, Colston Hall
The Bristolian Star, Tanya Lacey, returned to her home town yesterday as she did an amazingly energetic and engaging hour long set at the Colston Hall.
Starting with ‘Letter To My Ex’, she proved to just as amazing live as she is on her recordings – with a voice so powerful it would undoubtedly put the whole of the X Factor, and any other talent show for that matter, to shame.
‘Born To Fly’ followed and kept the atmosphere pumped up on this special night which was put on by MixRadio. Tanya told the crowd that the video that accompanies this track was filmed in Stokes Croft and that just made them all love her even more. Tanya might live in London now but she has remained true to her roots.
is needed now More than ever
Third song in was one of Tanya’s personal favourites, ‘Greatness’, and her interaction with the intimate crowd in The Lantern Room was constant.
‘Too Many Cooks’ and ‘Good Man’ got the room in a spin and ‘Date Myself’ did a good job of making sure no one stood still.
Everyone got to hear a good percentage of her debut album – which has been recorded in London, New York and Atlanta.
The crowd showed their appreciation of her returning to the city with constant yells of support and it’s clear she loved and welcomed it.
This is a performer who hasn’t sold out. At the age of just 28, she has an extremely wise head on her shoulders and more contacts in the music industry than most, but she doesn’t boast about it.
Tanya would have every right to be smug though. She’s not just a singer, songwriter and rapper. She’s also her own label boss and there is no doubt that she has even more plans up her sleeve.
The only down point of the entire flow was when Tanya finally left the stage after doing her hour long set. Everyone desperately wanted more and no doubt they will all be first in the queue when this wonderfully gifted Bristolian puts on another date in the city.
Tanya’s Head Chef EP is out now.
