Review: The Royston Club, Rough Trade – ‘The audience took to the band as if it were a hometown gig’
The Wrexham rockers, The Royston Club, took to the stage for the launch of their new highly anticipated debut album, Shaking Hips and Crashing Cars, to a sold-out Rough Trade.
The band began their set with the opener of the new album, The Deep End. The audience took to the band as if it were a hometown gig, wanting more and more with every song.
Tom Faithful acknowledged this throughout the evening, lapping up the response the band had received for an album that was released less than a week ago.
is needed now More than ever
For such a small venue, the sound echoed through the room, sounding crystal clear. We were also with a few older Royston Club favourites that made the album such as Believe It or Not and crowd favourite, Mrs Narcissistic.
On top of this, we had a sprinkling of brand-new material from the album, including Blisters and Shallow Tragedy.
The 40-minute set soon came to a close, The Royston Club loving every second of the Bristol loyal that had come out to see them on a beautiful Tuesday night.
Tom announced to the crowd how grateful they all were for everyone that had brought the album.
The blistering riffs of Ben Matthias’ guitar soon filled the room as the crowd were to be taken on one last ride, with the song Mariana closing the show in style. Cries of ‘one more song’ echoed through the room as the lights came back on and the signing began.
The four piece from North Wales took the time to meet all their fans after the show, emphasising how grateful they were to each and every person who has supported them along the journey they’ve encountered so far.
They return to The Fleece on October 25 for what will be another night to remember.
