Review: The Wailers, Bristol O2 Academy
Legendary reggae artists, the Wailers, returned to an appreciative Bristol as they performed the classic album ‘Legend’ in its entirety.
They burst onto the stage, full of character and life, with the classic ‘One Love’ and the crowd, which all had smiles plastered across their faces, went instantly crazy.
Alongside Bob Marley, the Wailers, who first formed in 1969, have sold in excess of 250 million albums worldwide and it’s easy to see why. You simply can’t not like them. With their energy and beats, they would make even the most miserable person feel uplifted.
is needed now More than ever
They’ve had over twenty chart hits in England, including seven Top 10 entries, and the Bristol crowd appeared to get every song that it wished for last night.
‘No Women, No Cry’, ‘Exodus’, ‘Jamming’ and ‘Buffalo Soldier’ went down particularly well and every gig goer seemed to know every word. It was impossible to hold a drink without it spilling down you, as everyone danced in time with the music. No-one could blame them though, the music really was contagious.
After a stamping, pleading audience reaction to more of what they had just heard, the band came back for a fabulous encore starting with Redemption Song.
The interaction from the Wailers with Bristol was constant throughout the two hour gig and very well received. They wanted to make sure everyone watching was having as good a time as they were up on stage.
It was certainly a night to get you in the mood for a good weekend and Bob Marley himself would have been proud of the high standard of performance that the band put on.
