Rise Bristol hosts Nick Drake tribute evening

By Laura Williams  Thursday Nov 13, 2014

Bristol’s best known record shop, Rise, is hosting a special evening in memory of musician Nick Drake tonight (Nov 13)  to coincide with the release of a new book ‘Remembered For A While’.

The free and unique event, which starts at 7pm and finishes at 10pm, will feature local musician Patrick Duff playing tribute to Drake, covering one of his songs, an exhibition about the English artist who died 30 years ago and Q&A with his sister, Gabrielle.

The exhibition features a unique selection of 10 unseen and original photographs of Nick Drake, taken by Julian Lloyd in 1967, along with the actual blanket Nick was famously shrouded with in many of these photos; his Martin guitar which he used for his final five songs and some handwritten lyrics.

Guardian journalist Pete Paphides will host an in-depth round table discussion with ‘Remembered for a While’ editor Cally Calloman, Nick’s sister Gabrielle Drake, and two very special guests. Looking back and reflecting upon Nick’s career, his life, words and music, the panel will delve in to a considered and in-depth discussion, before audience questions.

As well as first and second edition copies of the book for sale, there will be a special release 7 inch single of Cello Song, from previously unreleased Peel Sessions (which will be played on the night) and some Nick Drake Island Record vinyl album releases.
