Rock’n’roll tours to explore Bristol venues past and present
A Bristol-based promoter, manager and performer has created a walking tour that takes people on a trail of some of the city’s best-known venues.
The two-hour tour will include a stop at the pub and be a glimpse into the city’s musical past and present.
“The idea is to hopefully run it on a Sunday afternoon as a leisurely walk bringing back memories for people of the classic venues,” says founder John Hughes, who lives in the city centre.
is needed now More than ever
“It will take in the Dugout, Bristol Hippodrome, the Louisiana, the Fleece, the Corn Exchange, the Bamboo Club and many other locations plus stories relating to each venue.”
The Dugout was often used as a live music venue in the late 1960s and The Bamboo in St Paul Street nurtured local reggae outfits Talisman and Black Roots.
The tour will explore the history of these venues in depth and more.

The walking tour, which John hopes to start in spring 2021, has been inspired by a similar tour he ran in New York City.
The 56-year-old will tell stores of Bristol’s Wild Bunch and Massive Attack, as well as Bristol-related stories about the likes of Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Amy Winehouse and others.
John hopes the tour will be a “nostalgic and fun” walk around many of Bristol’s much-loved past and current music venues.
