Showcasing new Bristol underground talent

By Martin Booth  Friday Oct 26, 2018

Three young Bristol musicians who have spent the last year on an innovative artist development scheme are taking to the stage at the Arnolfini on Saturday night.

Splitz P, Charece and Solomon OB have been busy in the studio with industry mentors, taken part in songwriting and production workshops, and worked on their own brand identity and marketing concepts as part of Multi-Track.

The project from Bristol Plays Music, the Colston Hall’s education hub, provides professional development opportunities for those involved in the city’s underground music scene to advance.

On Saturday, October 27, the trio are joining the lineup of an evening gig featuring the likes of Yizzy and Ms Banks, following a one-day music conference.

Charece Anderson, 21, from St George, is studying to be a midwife at Southmead Hospital while also finding time to take her first steps into the music industry.

She said: “This is a big opportunity to put myself out there. It’s a big starting step for me. This has been a manic year for me, but I’m just taking it day by day.”

Joel Douglas, 24, from Fishponds, also known as Splitz P, has recently returned from a trip to Senegal where he immersed himself in the country’s cultural life.

He said: “This last year has been fantastic. The best advice I have been given so far is to never give up, learn your craft, keep pushing and never be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.”

He added: “I have learned more about myself as a person. It’s a holistic experience. Multi-Track is a really well-rounded project.”

For Solomon Ogunmefun-Brooker, 27, from Montpelier, Saturday’s showcase will be about “showing the fire”.

“We have had such an amazing team around us; people providing a lot of knowledge and insight. It’s a massive learning curve and I can’t wait to be able to share the music that I have working on.”

Joint tickets for the conference and showcase at the Arnolfini on Saturday, October 27 cost £15 for under-25s, and £25 for a standard ticket. Separate tickets for the day and evening events are also available. Tickets are available at www.multi-track.co.uk or alternatively from the Colston Hall box office by calling 0117 203 4040 or www.colstonhall.org.
