Simple Things Festival 2017 announces first wave of acts
Bristol multi-venue festival Simple Things has unveiled its first announcement of acts for its seventh edition. A joint venture from the teams behind Crack Magazine, Colston Hall and Love Saves the Day, the festival continues to push forward innovative new music and give a platform to Bristol’s most exciting acts.
With sixteen hours of music to cover, even the first announcement offers a lot to get your ears around. Excitingly, indie-pop mainstays Metronomy will set the tone for a weekend of aural thrills as they headline the festival’s opening concert at Motion on Friday, October 20. Tickets for this event must be purchased separately from the main festival.
is needed now More than ever
The festival proper kicks off on Saturday, October 21. A veritable avalanche of the most interesting music from around the world is planned already, as evidenced by this mile-long first announcement.
The man behind Caribou, Dan Snaith, is a man of many aliases, and perhaps his most affecting one yet will be headlining on Saturday night: Daphni. Locked in for a four-hour set, we can’t wait to see what one of the biggest names in electronic music has up his sleeve. Placed far away on the sonic scale but similarly close to our hearts is techno originator Juan Atkins, and the dizzying talents of Warp dynamo Clark won’t be something you want to miss.
If you’re keen to get some proper Bristolian beats down you, IDLES will be sweating out their anarchic punk sound for a second year running, Idle Hands affiliate Shanti Celeste will be getting you out on the floor, and psych-pop wizard Oliver Wilde will be making sure you’re starry-eyed and swaying for the entirety of his bewitching set.
Yet more acts include GAIKA, Cakes Da Killa, The Bug ft Miss Red, Jlin, Kelly Lee Owens, (Sandy) Alex G, Intergalactic Gary and loads more. Phew.
A finale concert set for Sunday, October 22 is also planned with very special guests on the cards, so keep your diary wide open for that one.
Simple Things Festival takes place at multiple venues across Bristol from 20-22 October. For tickets and more information check out www.simplethingsfestival.co.uk
