The Nextmen to headline Cider House Rising
The Nextmen have been announced as headliners for a new summer festival in Bristol. Cider House Rising – which combines cider and street food with live music and DJs – takes place at the Trinity Centre on July 24 and 25.
The Nextmen sound is famously eclectic, drawing on a range of grooves from vintage reggae to hip-hop, house and drum & bass. It’s festival fuel, in other words, and a great choice to bring the party to a climax on Saturday night. The headliners are far from the only attraction for music fans though. While some cider or beer festivals seem to book music as an afterthought, this one looks determined to do it properly.
is needed now More than ever
Also booked for Saturday are Prince Fatty & MC Horseman, best known for their reggae covers of hip-hop anthems like Shimmy Shimmy Ya and Insane In The Brain, which seem guaranteed to go down a treat as the apple juice flows. The other big name is Don Letts, whose remarkable career as a filmmaker, club DJ and broadcaster straddles the worlds of reggae and punk rock. Support that night comes from Asian Hawk, a Bath-based scratch DJ and winner of various DMC mixing titles.
Friday looks like being a digital-free zone as a trio of vinyl specialists take charge. DJ Format – the Brighton old school revivalist behind Music for the Mature B-Boy – goes up against two of our own beat kings. Bristol boys Andy Smith and Scott ‘Boca 45’ Hendy used to make music together as Dynamo Productions, and they’re both first class crate diggers. Expect a bit of everything from funk and hip-hop to ‘50s R’n’B and psychedelia, not to mention upwards of 200 ciders and a fair few ales.
