The Scribes return to Bristol for homecoming show

By Safiya Bashir  Thursday Sep 23, 2021

After a busy summer touring festivals across the UK and Europe, The Scribes will be back in Bristol for a homecoming show.

The hip hop three-piece will be returning to Mr Wolf’s for the first time since the pandemic as part of their 44 date tour, which has seen them perform at Latitude Festival, Beautiful Days Festival and many other locations.

Made up by Ill Literate, Jonny Steele and Minamus, the group will be returning to their local stage on Friday, ready to give a show full of energy, beatboxing and off the cuff freestyling.

They’ll be returning to their hometown after a long time, something that the group is very excited about.

“Lockdown was crazy, It’s been amazing the last few months getting back to normal gigs and festivals, seeing crowds and people all together again having a good time again. I cannot wait to bring it all back home to Bristol!” Shaun Amos tells Bristol24/7.

The South West based group has been winners of both the Exposure Music Award’s “Best UK Urban Act” and the EatMusic Radio Award’s “Best Live Act” and been on stages including Glastonbury, Wilderness and Shambala Festival.

For Jonny Steele, Bristol was definitely a source of inspiration for the music they are putting out today.

“We’re spoiled in Bristol, you can find pretty much any genre of music you want and if not, you’re being introduced to new sounds at every turn,” said Jonny.

“You can always find people wanting to collaborate through music or just art in general. It means you never get complacent especially when you get to see other acts perform.”

And on how it feels to back, Shaun is confident it will be an amazing night being back on their home turf.

“We love Mr Wolfs, they’ve always been so supportive of us from the start and they’ve done the same for lots of other bands in Bristol too.”

“Just look at the band names they’ve got engraved on the front window, it’s like a who’s who of the Bristol music scene and I think every one of them would say they owe a bit of their success to Mr Wolfs, I know we would!”

“It feels amazing being back there, especially after such a long gap due to lockdown. It’s going to be an awesome night.”
