Thekla named as finalist in small venue award

By Laura Williams  Friday Oct 31, 2014

Staff at Bristol’s famous floating gig venue are celebrating a season of award nominations and hoping for a second win.

Thekla was recently awarded the Best Venue Teamwork award at the Live Music Business Awards and now are going for gold with the Jack Daniels-sponsored NME award, beating off stiff competition for the regional top spot.

The annual best small venue in the UK award recognises the contribution of the country’s smaller venues, of which Thekla is one. The venue, which is run by DHP group, recently celebrated its 30th birthday and has a good mix of live music, club nights and city festivals – such as Dot to Dot.

Pat Somers, Promotions Manager at Thekla, said: “We’ve been lucky to play host to some incredible secret and intimate shows from the likes of Babyshambles, Disclosure, Crowded House, James Blunt, Mumford & Sons, Florence & The Machine, Franz Ferdinand and more over the last few years.”
