Virtuoso tabla player Zakir Hussain at St George’s Bristol
Zakir Hussain’s is amongst the world’s foremost contemporary musicians, as well as a celebrated composer, producer and film actor.
Now aged 70, his touring life goes back an extraordinary six decades, and has featured performances and collaborations with international musicians from many different genres, including sitar legend Ravi Shankar, John McLaughlin from the fusion group Shakti, and the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart – with whom he made the Grammy award-winning album Planet Drum.
Multiple accolades bestowed upon Hussain to date include the US government’s National Heritage Fellowship, the Ratna Sadasya, Sangeet Natak Akademi’s most prestigious honour, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the San Fransisco Jazz Center, in recognition of his ‘unparalleled contribution to the world of music’.

Now, in a specially curated concert presented by Bristol-based Asian Arts Agency, Hussain is coming to St George’s Bristol on Tuesday, November 23.
On the night, Hussain will be accompanied by a group of exceptional musicians. The full lineup is as follows:

Abbos Kosimov – doyra and Uzbek percussion
Sabir Khan – sarangi
