Bristol drama group to Rock the Hippodrome
A group of young Bristol performers will have just 48 hours’ rehearsal time before staging a production of the West End smash hit We Will Rock You at the Hippodrome on July 6.
Only the five main actors in the group, made up of 140 thespians aged nine to 21, will be permitted to see the script in advance; with props and costume-making also squeezed into the two-day time frame.
The project aims to raise £10,000 for the Mercury Phoenix Trust, an AIDS charity set up by Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor in memory of singer Freddie Mercury, who sadly died from the disease in 1991.
The charity funds education and awareness projects to help educate young people about HIV and AIDS, particularly in the developing world.
Martin Williams, of Bristol’s The Big Act school of musical theatre, will be directing the show, which is supported by Queen’s official fan club.
