Bristol Old Vic restores historic banqueting hall
An historic Georgian banqueting hall will form the centrepiece of Bristol Old Vic‘s renovation project on its King Street entrance, costing £12.5m.
The sumptuous interior of the Grade I-listed Cooper’s Hall will be revealed at the theatre’s reopening on September 24 2018.

The hall as it was before renovation began; the area was known as ‘the staircase to nowhere’
Designed by William Halfpenny for the Cooper’s Company in 1744, the hall predates the 250-year-old theatre.
is needed now More than ever
Before being incorporated into the foyer in the 1970s it was used variously as a public assembly room, Baptist chapel and fruit and vegetable warehouse.

The hall is now nearing the end of the renovation process
With the interior transformed into a banqueting hall once more, Cooper’s Hall will be available to hire later this year as a venue for events, accommodating up to 120 formally seated people, and up to 200 standing.
