Inside rehearsals for ‘A Christmas Carol’ at Bristol Old Vic

By Steve Wright  Wednesday Nov 7, 2018

This Christmas Bristol Old Vic give us a brand new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ timeless festive classic A Christmas Carol – and they’ve given Bristol24/7 a first look at what’s going on inside the rehearsal room.

Director Tom Morris (The Grinning ManSwallows & Amazons) joins forces with Lee Lyford and Gwyneth Herbert (The Snow Queen) to present another festive feast for all the family.

The turkeys are hanging in St Nick’s butchers shop, the Christmas Steps are decked with holly, but Christmas Eve is a bleak night for miserly money-lender Ebenezer Scrooge. Before the night is through, he is visited by four ghosts who show him chilling portraits of his past, present and future.

As the sun rises, he comes to see the bitter truth of his selfish life; learning kindness, compassion and, ultimately, the true meaning of Christmas.

“Dickens’ classic comedy provides the perfect end to our Year of Change, exploring what it might take for a hard-hearted skinflint to transform into the living embodiment of the spirit of Christmas,” Tom Morris comments.

A Christmas Carol takes place at Bristol Old Vic from Nov 29-Jan 13. For more info, visit https://bristololdvic.org.uk/whats-on/a-christmas-carol
