New acta show revisits the heyday of Bedminster Hippodrome
Formed in 1985, acta community theatre has made work across Bristol ever since, and has occupied a permanent base in Bedminster for nearly two decades.
They aim to widen access to theatre, both in the stories they tell, the people who tell them, and the audiences who attend.
In facilitating this goal, they run regular open access creative sessions, once of which is its adult group, Pick N Mix Theatre.
is needed now More than ever
From September 28-30, in collaboration with Bedminster Community Choir who will be joining them on stage, Pick N Mix will be bringing their show Welcome to the Hippodrome, to acta.

Billed as ‘a nostalgic and musical ode to a Bedminster past’, the show will revisit the long-lost music hall venue that once entertained locals of East Street, many of whom worked in the nearby tobacco and paper bag factories at the time.
“This theatre production truly embodies the spirit of community, as it draws from historical research and creative efforts,” says Rosalie Pordes, who has co-directed the play.
“The show adopts the nostalgic style of music halls, giving the audience an enjoyable and immersive experience. Furthermore, it serves as a tribute to significant aspects of our local history.
“It’s testament to the power of collaboration and the beauty of a united community coming together to create something truly extraordinary.”
