New appeal raising funds for childhood creativity
A campaign to raise money so Bristol’s children can play, imagine and tell stories has been launched by Travelling Light Theatre Company.
Running from May until the end of August 2019, Yes Lets! aims to raise £50,000 and every pound raised will be match funded by the Arts Council.
While the Travelling Light is known for its co-productions with the Bristol Old Vic and the Tobacco Factory Theatres, its work with Bristol’s children and young people are just as important.

Yes let’s is raising money so Bristol’s children can play, imagine and tell stories
“Our work here in Barton Hill and with children across Bristol is as big as our productions,” said Georgina Densley, the company’s participation director.
Sat in the courtyard of Barton Hill Settlement, where Travelling Light is based, a group of young adults and their carers are taking part in a theatre workshop in the rehearsal room and studio nearby, where the company’s award-winning shows are created.
The campaign launches at a time where there is dwindling provision and funding for children and young people in Bristol.
“It’s not news that there’s cuts to public funding and cuts to the creative curriculum, but we believe that it’s a child’s right to be creative and play and imagine,” says Georgina. “We’re trying to raise some money to safeguard that for children right here in Barton Hill, in Bristol and beyond.”

Travelling Light are seeing less provision for creative opportunities for children and young people
Travelling Light Theatre Group has a number of events planned for the appeal including Yes Lets! day on July 18 where schools and workplaces are asked to wear their best or funniest hat to work.
