Pioneering youth acting course to open
A new professional acting course for 16-18 year olds is set to open in September 2017. The course is the first of its kind to be run in the UK.
Acting agency Boomsatsuma and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School are working in partnership to run the pioneering course, which will be held at Creative Youth Network’s city centre space, The Station.
The two-year full-time Extended Level 3 Diploma is the equivalent of three A-levels, and will be taught by expert staff. It is hoped that the course will equip young people with the necessary skills to excel at university or drama school.
is needed now More than ever
Course director Stuart Wood said: “In my 30 years of working in drama schools, I’ve met countless students who say. ‘At 16 I knew I wanted to be an actor and I wish there had been a proper drama school experience for me’. Now there is.”
Tuition is free, and three bursaries of £1,500 per year are available to students who may be in need of extra financial support.
Access to the course is through an audition. Initial places for the course have been filled by young people from 11 different schools across Bristol, but five extra places have been made available.
