Theatrical collaboration joins biomedical researchers with female survivors of domestic abuse

By Sarski Anderson  Tuesday Jun 28, 2022

Written and performed by two women with direct experience of domestic violence, Hard Evidence tells the story of friendship, mutual support and overcoming abuse, in its many forms.

The play demonstrates the empowering effect of public involvement in research, and has been developed with the support of partners acta Community Theatre, NIHR Bristol Biomedical Research Centre, COMforT Study, and People in Health West of England.

The narrative follows the character of Jan, whose confidence is buoyed by her involvement in a research advisory group on domestic violence, focusing on the transformative power of mindfulness for trauma.

When her good friend Christine becomes entangled in a violent relationship, she must help her, too, on a journey towards recovery.

First developed in lockdown, and performed back in 2021 at acta, Hard Evidence is touring in south Bristol, at The Withywood Centre and The Greenwood Centre, on July 2 and 8 respectively.

The performance will be followed by a Q&A with the women behind the production.

Hard Evidence (age recommendation 15+) is at The Withywood Centre on July 2 at 3pm, and The Greenway Centre on July 8 at 6pm. Tickets are available from www.acta-bristol.com, or by calling 0117 953 2448.
