By Lowie Trevena  Monday Nov 23, 2020

Tobacco Factory Theatres will bring Christmas magic into homes across Bristol over the festive period, with its latest production streaming digitally.

The Southville theatre are working with Pins and Needles, makers of The Little Mermaid and Oi Frog!, and the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre to bring Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas to life, despite the difficulties of 2020.

“This Christmas, Tobacco Factory Theatres was all set to collaborate with Bristol’s Pins and Needles on a bold new co-production for its Factory Theatre,” say the theatre team.

“Then the world change, and, since March, Tobacco Factory Theatres has been fighting for its survival whilst remaining closed to protect the health of its communities.”

Father Christmas has been performed at the Lyric in London for eight year, and the 2020 show has been newly rehearsed and filmed especially for this year’s festive season.

“Pins and Needles are a much-loved and respected Bristol company with outstanding instincts for theatrical invention and magical storytelling,” says Mike Tweddle, artistic director and David Dewhurst, acting executive director at Tobacco Factory Theatres.

“We were collaborating with them on a bold new co-production for Christmas, before the world changed.

“We therefore couldn’t be happier to be still joining forces with them and co-producers the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre on this innovative, world-class offering of family theatre, specially reimagined and filmed for audiences at home.”

The festive show will be streamed from Wednesday, December 9 to Thursday, December 24, with tickets £10 for one person, or £15 for a group, which can be watched unlimited between this time period.
