Young actors bring National Theatre festival to Redgrave Theatre
Bristol’s brightest crop of young actors will perform at the Redgrave Theatre in February as part of NT Connections, the National Theatre’s annual festival of new plays for young people. First year diploma students from boomsatsuma’s professional acting diploma will make their debut with a production of Natalie Mitchell’s When They Go Low, a timely reflection of teenage sexuality, modern feminism, body shaming and bullying within an increasingly online world.
The diploma is a vocational course, newly developed in association with Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and offers professional drama training to young people 16 and over. Netflix’s Daredevil actor, and patron of the course Charlie Cox, says it offers students “a chance to understand what actor training is all about and get a headstart in learning their craft”.
is needed now More than ever
The diploma is taught by top industry professionals, and directing When They Go Low is course leader and winner of the 2017 Genesis Director Award, Nancy Medina. Her recent directing credits include Dael Orlandersmith’s Yellowman at London’s Young Vic.
When They Go Low will play at The Redgrave Theatre in Clifton on February 27 and 28. For tickets, visit www.redgravetheatre.com.
