Bristol Harbour Festival 2017 highlights: Family
Bristol Harbour Festival returns this weekend for its 46th year and, as always, promises to be a lively collection of activities, music, markets and exhibitions.
Every day this week, Bristol24/7 will focus on a different aspect of the celebrations in order to share some of the highlights and not-to-be-missed moments of one of the city’s finest family-friendly events.
There are plenty of activities for all ages taking place this year, with Castle Park being transformed into a playground for families; providing a weekend of storytelling, fancy dress, fun games and crafts for all ages.
is needed now More than ever
Some of the South West’s most creative companies will have stands within the park, which will offer a more relaxed and child-friendly atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of the harbourside.
Magician Marky Jay will be headlining the fun area over the course of the weekend, bringing his monkey-themed magic show to the little ones. There will also be various play zones set up for toddlers who love to explore, including Bocadalupa, an interactive ‘dream’ playscape, and Happymess, an area where children can create their own arts and crafts, take part in a treasure hunt or roll around in a glittery ocean.
The APE Project are bringing along a fleet of Wacky Bikes, a collection of unusual and imaginative two-wheelers in which children aged five and up can have a go on.
For real little ones, baby racing also forms part of the line up: get ready for some seriously competitive babies (and cheering parents) crawling towards the finish line.
Relaxing storytelling tents provide a cushion-strewn quiet spot for families to get comfortable in and listen to Cassandra Wye, an enthusiastic storyteller, and Caroline Bowditch, who will regal crowds with ‘The Adventures of Snigel’ – a snail who loves bubbles.
Children will be able to get up close and personal with some furry friends as Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park bring along chicks, rabbits and tortoises to meet the little ones.
There will also be plenty of opportunity for families to get involved in sporting activities, with Effootless Slacklining and Everyone Active on hand to get everybody moving.
