From Horfield to Hollywood

By Martin Booth  Friday Oct 10, 2014

It’s a wonder nobody has thought of doing anything like this before: celebrating the life of the Bristol boy born Archibald Leach who became one of the biggest film stars of his generation, Cary Grant.

Leach went to Bishop Road Primary and Fairfield Grammar School and was introduced to the theatre at the Bristol Hippodrome.

He joined Bob Pender’s troupe of acrobats and sailed to New York in 1920, working on the Broadway stage before reinventing himself in Hollywood as Cary Grant.
