Preview: Valley Fest 2018

By Victoria Rose  Monday Jul 30, 2018

Valley Fest, held on Luke Hasell’s organic farm near Chew Valley Lake in Somerset, will be returning from August 3-5 for the fifth year running, offering a variety of activities for the whole family as well as an eclectic musical lineup.

For those with their dancing shoes on, St Paul and the Broken Bones, My Baby, Rae Morris, Oh My God! It’s the Church and Yola Carter will play on The Lake Stage, right at the heart of the festival with its stunning backdrop of lakeside views as well as an eclectic mix of music and a ‘legends of the lake’ fancy dress theme..

Rhain and Alabaster Deplume, amongst many others, will play on the new Barnstormer Stage. Built to withstand ground-shaking music, it’s a new addition for this year where you can let your hair down and dance from dawn to dusk.

As you might expect from a farmyard festival, food and drink is very important at Valley Fest, and it boasts a massive range of delicious food. Experience the picnic site Chew Down, offering spectacular views looking down on the lake, as well as fun cooking activities, demonstrations and talks from chefs in the Big Top. There are also the famous daily feasts at the Yeo Valley Canteen: the menu is different every day, and all the food served is organic.

Over at The Yard, there will be a great range of activities suiting every age group – from midnight dancing, a hobby horse gymkhana to aquafit. Kids big and small can also take part in tractor riding, vegetable picking and meeting the farm’s animals.

This year, the Valley Fest team are aiming to raise £25,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust through car parking charges and donations. Patients and staff will be joining the fun over the weekend, and money raised will help to fund more nurses to provide the specialist support and treatment that the charity offers to young people and their families.

With a recommendation from Festival Kidz, it’s one of the most family-friendly fests in the West Country, and its novel programme of events is not to be missed.

Valley Fest runs from August 3-5 2018. For tickets and info, visit www.valleyfest.co.uk
