Love Saves the Day steps up to the mark

By Rachel Morris  Friday Feb 20, 2015

Bristol’s Loves Saves the Day festival has stepped up to the mark as part of Europe’s Green Capital.

Organisers have announced plans to implement a reusable cup system at the festival this year.

All draft beers and ciders will be served in hard plastic cups, which will be charged a £1 non-refundable deposit . The idea is for festival-goers to keep and use the same cups throughout the day.

True, it might be a bit inconvenient if you have to carry your empty cup around between bar stops, or when you’ve made it to the front for Shy FX and there’s no going back…

But the reality is that the new scheme will save an estimated 360,000 plastic cups going to landfill over the next three years.

Tom Paine, Festival Director, says: “Love Saves The Day is adopting a ‘re-use is better than recycle’ approach to viable areas of the events production. We need to start treating plastic as a reusable material rather than a disposable commodity.”

The revenue generated from the £1 deposits will fund further sustainability projects.

Loves Saves the Day will be held this year at Eastville Park, 23rd & 24th May 2015. www.lovesavestheday.org.
