5 festivals happening in November 2016

By Julian Owen  Tuesday Mar 22, 2016

1) Iceland Airwaves
Nov 2-6
Reykjavik, Iceland
Price: £160
Named after its starting out in a hangar at Reykjavik airport, and long since acknowledged as one of the finest events on the international calendar. These days it sprawls through sundry venues in the capital, in which will play the early confirmed likes of Julia Holter, Kronos Quartet, múm and PJ Harvey.

2) Bath Film Festival
Nov 3-13
Bath
Excellent film fest, this, and properly forward-thinking – a couple of years back it pioneered an F-Rating (marking out those films with strong female input, both in front and behind the camera), since adopted elsewhere. Nothing confirmed in the line-up at press time, but expect thoroughly intriguing premieres, workshops, live musical accompaniment, etc.

3) Le Guess Who
Nov 10-13
Utrecht, Holland
Price: 92.50
No word yet on the line-up for this popular fest’s 10th anniversary, but expect leftfield fare of the very highest order – last year included the super-tasty likes of the Pop Group and Deerhunter.

4) Shine On Weekender
Nov 11-14
Butlins Minehead, Somerset

You want ’80s/’90s nostalgia, you got it. Pretty much the entire bill has already been penned in, including Echo & the Bunnymen, Cast, Black Grape, Jesus Jones, Echobelly, the Wonder Stuff, the House of Love, Thousand Yard Stare, Cud, the Frank & Walters, Utah Saints, Shed Seven, and – relax everyone, they’re here – Marion.

Nov 18-21
