Macy Gray and Quantic confirmed for Jazz Fest

By Bristol24/7  Wednesday Dec 14, 2016

Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival returns for its fifth year in March 2017 and promises to be the best yet.

On the programme, music fans can look forward to ambitious film projects, a big band celebration of Dizzy Gillespie, a large-scale gospel concert and more, all topped off with a live performance by Macy Gray.

The festival, taking place from March 16-19, opens with internationally renowned Bristol saxophonist and composer Andy Sheppard who is writing a brand new score to the classic silent film, Metropolis.

He will be joined on stage by a 10-piece band generating multi-layered acoustic and electronic textures, including the electric guitar and effects of Norwegian Eivind Aarset, virtuoso Italian percussionist Michele Rabbia and a powerful brass section.

Other highly anticipated acts are Mud Morganfield, son of Muddy Waters; funk and soul from Quantic with Alice Russell; and new jazz trio Remi Harris and the Electric Beat Combo.

Events will be taking place in the Colston Hall, the Folk House and for the first time, the O2 Academy.
