Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival launch crowdfunder to secure future
Bristol International Jazz & Blues Festival have launched a crowdfunder appeal to save the city’s much loved annual event.
Despite celebrating a fantastic seventh festival this March a series of factors have thrown the future of the multi-venue festival into doubt.
Minimal funding, a departure from Colston Hall during its renovation and door sales lost to 2018‘s beast from the east means have meant that this a make or break time.
is needed now More than ever
Festival organisers have set a goal of of £30,000 for the campaign to ensure the future of a festival that has seen thousands of local and international musicians perform, provided masterclasses and attracted more than 12,000 people annually to its free and ticketed events.
The likes of Dr John, Macy Gray, Arturo Sandoval, Maceo Parker, Melody Gardot and Pee Wee Ellis have all performed at the renowned event over the years along with some great emerging talent.
Artistic director of the festival, Denny Ilett, said: “In these challenging and confusing times, I feel we need entertaining now more than ever.
“With music being stripped away from school curriculums, funding for the arts at an all-time low and festivals, clubs and arts centres struggling to survive, we hope that you will join us in helping reverse this alarming trend by supporting our efforts to bring world class jazz and blues to Bristol.”
The festival is now reaching out to all those who have enjoyed the event in its many forms to donate anything from a few pounds to larger contributions, and help ensure it continues into 2020 and beyond.
