Bristol New Music Festival returns
Bristol New Music festival will return this year to Colston Hall, St George’s and The Cube from May 12-15.
As well as new music commissions and the first date of Max Richter’s UK live tour, the festival will also see the creation of a new art installation, Requiem for 114 Radios.
Artists Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard are appealing to members of the public who may have old, unwanted transistor radios to donate them to the Colston Hall to create a 114-strong ‘choir of radios.
is needed now More than ever
All 114 radios will be installed in the 19th century cellars at Colston Hall, stacked on shelves. Each one will be individually tuned to sing voices, static and other unidentifiable noises on unique frequencies to perform Dies Irae.
Other festival highlights include:
– Bristol-born and raised, electro-acoustic producer John Bence will present a new commission at St George’s and The Cube. He will first work with Concaneda Chapel Choir performing at St George’s in the day and then remix the performance live at The Cube that evening.
– Norwegian trumpeter and soundscaper Arve Henriksen will be playing an Opera North commissioned piece Places of Worship. He’ll perform to a film by video artist Anastasia Isachsen mapped live onto the walls of St George’s.
