Bristol Walk Fest releases 2021 programme

By Lowie Trevena  Wednesday Apr 28, 2021

In a year when more people than ever have been discovering the joys of Bristol’s great outdoors, Bristol Walk Fest has announced its return and programme for 2021.

Following a break in 2020 because of the pandemic, the city’s walking festival has released details of 100 routes for all ages, interests and abilities.

All walks are available to view online and download via Go Jauntly. Ordinarily, themed group walks would also be organised, but these are paused due to the ongoing pandemic. Instead, the website lists challenges, events and tours that can be undertaken in small groups.

“We already know people have been walking more due to lockdown and we’re excited that our new website provides a ‘one stop shop’ for all things walking related in Bristol,” says festival director Karen Lloyd.

“We showcase the huge range of walking opportunities there are in our city, hopefully inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds to try different routes or join a walking group now that restrictions are easing.”

Bristol City Council has also marked the return of the festival by curated more than 60 walks on the Go Jauntly app, including walks on Bristol’s Black history, a tour of the city’s most Instagrammable spots and a street art stroll.

A new website also includes details of 35 of walking activity groups and organisations based in the city and personal walking challenge suggestions that can be done from your doorstep.

The site also links to Bristol’s Greenground Map, which shows all of the city’s park and green spaces, and case studies on walking during lockdown.

“We are pleased to be supporting Walk Fest this year and to be joining the effort to provide Bristolians with more tools to enjoy the outdoors, despite the pandemic,” says Adam Crowther, head of city strategic transport at Bristol City Council.

“Over the last year we have seen a big increase in people walking, cycling and visiting green spaces all around the city and we want to capture these benefits and keep that momentum going. We encourage everyone to get involved and make the most of the new walking resources, including the Walk Fest website and Go Jauntly app.”
