By Dylan Robinson  Wednesday Feb 12, 2020

The month-long Bristol Walk Fest returns in May 2020 for its eighth annual edition, aiming to encouraging more people of all ages, interests and fitness levels to explore the city and its surroundings on foot.

Festival organisers are asking organisations with suggestions for festival walks to come forward before February 24 with their ideas. The team behind Bristol Walk Fest are will unveil the full plans for the festival in early April 2020.

“Interest in Bristol Walk Fest surged last year with more than 7,800 people taking advantage of a choice of more than 250 adventures on foot and covering a combined total estimate of 12,600 miles around the city,” says festival director Karen Lloyd, who is also part of Active Ageing Bristol.

“We already know that scores of last year’s event organisers are already fine-tuning their plans for Bristol Walk Fest 2020 but more submissions to our free guide are most welcome.”

Bristol Walk Fest 2020 is co-ordinated by Active Ageing Bristol in collaboration with The Anchor Society and St Monica Trust, working in partnership with Age UK Bristol. The festival coincides with Living Streets’ National Walking Month, a nationwide initiative designed to get more people active and walking.

“We genuinely do offer something for everyone,” Karen says. “There will be events for all fitness levels, including those with serious health challenges or disabilities;  a good range of dates and start times and a very rich choice of interests – among them local history, street art, food and foraging, walking sports, celebrity links, nature and wildlife.”
