Preview: Bristol Harbour Festival 2016
Bristol Harbour Festival will take over the centre of the city from Friday to Sunday with familiar favourites, new attractions, and two miles of vessels, food markets, circus acts, live music and performers.
Stretching from Underfall Yard on Cumberland Road to the city centre and onto Castle Park, there will be something for everyone from dance stages, food markets, live bands, demonstrations, family entertainment and daredevil stunts.
This year’s showcase of the city’s maritime heritage will start with a special Friday night ticket only concert in Lloyds Amphitheatre with Echo and the Bunnymen supported by former Haircut 100 front man Nick Heyward.

One other music highlight will be DJ Derek’s niece Jenny Griffiths paying a tribute to the much-missed Bristol legend with Sweet Memory Sounds at 6.45pm on Saturday in the Amphitheatre.
A few changes include Dance Village moving to Queen Square, music in the Amphitheatre, and Cirque Bijou’s circus stage and children’s area in Castle Park:
Protecting Bristol’s environment is a top priority for the organisers this year and an eco-friendly ethos is a key part of the festival.
Festival-goers will once again be asked to keep glass off the grass and be responsible with their litter, using the many recycling bins provided. To keep Queen Square as litter free as possible, alcohol cannot be brought in, but bars will be available.
All traders are encouraged to use environmentally-friendly packaging and the public are urged to buy plastic bottles or aluminium cans instead of glass bottles, with the aim of recycling more than half of the waste generated.
