Couple gets engaged at Valley Fest
Romantic weekends and clomping around a festival in wellies might be opposite sides of the Venn diagram for most, but for Abi Edgar and Jack Moores, everything came together perfectly for a wedding proposal with a difference.
They met two years ago through farmer Luke Hasell, who is involved with Eat Drink Bristol Fashion, Yurt Lush and Arcadia, amongst many other things.
“We met when Jack was putting up yurts in Queen Square, and I was coordinating the project,” Abi told Bristol24/7. “That summer, we worked together on a number of events, including Arcadia at Glastonbury.

“For the proposal, I wanted to recreate the date we had at Glastonbury in between crazy hours of work, under the legs of the Arcadia spider. It was Congo Natty playing a set, and Bob Marley’s One Love came on.”

Abi knew that they would both be at Valley Fest – the festival Luke Hasell runs on his farm in Chew Valley – with Jack helping put up the teepees and Abi managing the festival’s volunteer stewards. “Unbeknownst to Jack, I was planning to propose to him on the Sunday,” she laughs.
“Valley Fest has a fire engine with a sound system on it at The Yard – it’s a really cool bit of the festival, and it was the closest thing I could get to the Arcadia spider.
“I planned it with the guys in the DJ booth, and some of my stewards painted my face with glitter.
“I said to Jack that I had a bit of time off, and suggested we get a cocktail. He come into The Yard, the song played, I asked him and he said yes! We did a thumbs up and had some celebratory drinks everyone.
“And then I had to go back to work and look after the stewards, proposal or not!”
After the proposal, it transpired that Jack had also been planning a proposal of his own, though he hadn’t got as far as deciding on a date. “I beat him to it!” Abi laughs.
