Little Secret

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Sep 23, 2014

In an area of Bristol where university students are the principal footfall, a new cafe on Park Row will have a couple of months of settling in before customers start talking about their gap yahs or the inconvenience of 9am lectures.

Little Secret may be a new cafe but it’s kept the name and is from the same owners as the health and beauty shop that was here before.

That business is now online, as lattes replace lip balms and cakes (made by Danielle CoombsDanielle Coombs of Bishopston Supper Club) replace cleansing oils.

Coffee is from ExtractExtract, with the different varieties from an espresso to a flat white handily drawn on a black board.

A floor to ceiling window lets in a huge amount of natural light, with a few seats at the window, two tables with bar stools the other side of the bar and more seating downstairs.

Little Secret’s arrival now makes it three possibilities of where to get your coffee on Park Row, so close to Park Street but just too far away for many people to venture away from their usual haunts.

Just down the road, Didn’t You Do WellDidn’t You Do Well serves some of the best speciality coffee in Bristol, while Hobbs hairdressers serve coffee in their secret garden even if you’re not getting your locks shorn.

Little Secret may remain a little secret for now, but come the start of a new university year and this will no doubt become a popular meeting place for students and staff alike, as well as those brave enough to venture off the beaten track.
